Primary Job Responsibilities:
· Synthesize new luminescent materials (organic and inorganic phosphors) for use in Photonic Smart Coatings.
· Create thin coatings of off-the-shelf and synthesized luminescent materials in suitable support materials for use in Photonic Smart Coatings.
· Measure key photonic metrics for materials and coatings.
· Develop repeatable protocols for synthesis, coating, and measurement.
· Specify processing and metrology tools and techniques that may be required to execute experimentation and commercialization.
· Develop DOE experiments to optimize the performance of luminescent materials.
· Work with the engineering team to integrate the materials into coating stacks for Photonic Smart Coating product.
· Support commercialization and scale up of pilot production and full-scale manufacturing.
Qualifications / Skills:
· Demonstrated experience in solid state and other synthetic techniques for making luminescent materials.
· Demonstrated experience encapsulating phosphors in mechanical support materials and using these to form thin coatings.
· Demonstrated experience measuring luminescent output and other photonic parameters.
· Demonstrated experience doing designed experimentation and analysis in thin film coatings.
· Proficient in R&D processes including technical report writing, experiment proposals and documentation of experimental results.
· Proficient with Microsoft Office software and document management systems.
· Demonstrated experience working with a multi-disciplinary team to achieve aggressive technical goals.
Education and Experience Requirements:
· Master’s degree in chemistry or materials science required; Ph.D. preferred.
· Minimum of 10 to 12 years of industrial experience developing and applying luminescent materials
· Experience with multiple synthetic processes preferred
· Experience with thin coatings preferred
This is a full-time exempt position with benefits. Benefits include healthcare and dental as well as vacation and sick time. SunDensity offers a collaborative and flexible working environment. This position is expected to be on site in the lab most of the time due to the nature of the job. Annual salary is $95k-$125k with participation in our stock-option program.
