Senior Backend Engineer (Contract)

Project Overview
LineVision is seeking a backend engineer contractor to lead critical API migration work for our Onboarding Systems (OBS) team. This focused engagement will eliminate direct database and S3 access patterns by implementing secure API endpoints, enabling ISO 27001 and SOC2 compliance.
Project Objectives
Discovery & Architecture
- Map current direct DB/S3 access patterns across production workflows
- Design API architecture to replace direct access with secure, auditable endpoints
- Establish migration patterns and sequencing to minimize operational disruption
- Document completion of and gaps in security and compliance requirements for each API endpoint
API Development & Migration
- Build and deploy API endpoints to replace direct database and S3 access
- Implement best practices in authentication, authorization, and audit logging for compliance with SOC2 and ISO 27001
- Coordinate migration of workflows to new API-based architecture
- Ensure backwards compatibility and zero-downtime transitions
Validation & Handoff
- Verify compliance with ISO 27001 and SOC2 requirements
- Add and test reasonable API rate limits and guardrails to prevent operational downtime
- Document API specifications, usage patterns, and maintenance procedures
- Enable team to independently maintain and extend API infrastructure
What You Need to Succeed
Required Experience:
- Strong backend development experience with API design and implementation
- Proficiency in Python and experience with FastAPI, Flask, or similar frameworks
- Demonstrated expertise with AWS services including RDS, S3, Lambda, and API Gateway
- Experience implementing security controls for compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC2)
- Understanding of authentication/authorization patterns (OAuth, JWT, IAM)
- Proven track record of system migrations with minimal operational disruption
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience with data analyst workflows is a plus
- Familiarity with audit logging and compliance documentation requirements
- Ability to work closely with operational teams to develop requirements and autonomously deliver well tested solutions
- Clear communication skills to explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with PostgreSQL and time-series data patterns

Hourly Rate: $100-130/hr
