Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Director of Electrical Engineering, the Real-Time Firmware Engineer combines superb technical, research, and analytical capabilities, with a demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively. We’re looking for a personable candidate who uses their expertise in Real-Time Firmware development to innovate and solve complex problems. This person must be zealous about technical excellence, and comfortable working with a small, collaborative team of engineers who are passionate about using technology to make clean energy more accessible.

**This is a hybrid role which requires 2-3 days a week in our Philadelphia, PA office, we will greatly consider candidates in the Greater Philadelphia role**

Core Functions/Duties

  • Provide technical excellence in designing, implementing, and testing Real-Time Firmware for Functional Safety, Communications and Control in micro-controller-based Meter Socket Adapter products.
  • Ensure designs meet or exceed requirements, including those of governing agencies (e.g. IEC, UL) for Functional Safety.
  • Collaborate with the full engineering team (software developers, other firmware engineers, and hardware engineers) to develop and grow our evolving product line.
  • Create Real-Time Firmware functional specifications and requirements documentation for new products.
  • Develop unit and integration test methods to ensure systems meets requirements.
  • Participate in product deployment and provide support in resolving customer technical support issues.
  • Define, revise, and follow Real-Time Firmware design processes for high reliability firmware, including source control, build management, coding standards, etc.
  • Participate in the development of project plans, including cost estimates and schedules for Real-Time Firmware development tasks.
  • Participate in technical reviews, including evaluating code and other deliverables produced by the team.

Compensation range for this role begins at $125,000 + bonus + equity

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Education

Bachelor of Science (or Equivalent)

Required Experience

  • 7+ years experience as a Real-Time Firmware engineer designing, implementing, and testing embedded software/firmware for microcontrollers-based products.
  • Professional experience developing software applications in C/C++.
  • Experience using RTOS to create software/firmware for multi-threaded, timing critical applications.
  • Proficient with debugging/troubleshooting techniques, including JTAG Debuggers, trace analyzers, and use of electronics lab equipment such as Multimeters, Oscilloscopes, Logic analyzers, and Signal/Function Generators
  • Professional experience using Source Control Management systems (e.g. Git)
  • Understanding of static source code analysis tools/methods
  • Experience in developing design documentation (requirements, flowcharts, data flow diagrams, state transition diagrams, etc.)

Preferred Experience

  • Experience designing, implementing, testing, embedded software/firmware for functional safety applications, including electrical control systems, automotive, or medical.
    • Experience with Electric Meter, Meter Sockets and Adapters, Circuit Breakers or AC power management applications is a plus.
  • Experience operating in a regulated industry, including designing for and complying with standards, and creating documentation for review by certifying bodies.
    • Experience with IEC 60730, IEC 61508, ISO 26262, or other functional safety standards is a plus.
  • Experience with ARM-based processors. Cortex-R is a plus
  • Experience with TI microcontrollers.
  • Experience defining and implementing serial communication interfaces. Knowledge of CANbus or Modbus are a plus.
  • Experience with Digital Signal Processing
  • Experience with remote communication, including RF, Wifi, Cellular, Bluetooth, etc.

US Salary Range
$125,000$135,000 USD
