Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering
team. In this role, you will support the Senior Mechanical Engineer
on a number of projects/tasks both in current projects and future plant engineering studies. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative projects that have a tangible impact on sustainability and carbon reduction.

This role is hands-on, providing exposure to a wide range of mechanical equipment, process systems, plant construction & commissioning, as well as prototype lab sized equipment operating experience, in a highly collaborative & innovative environment. The role requires a strong focus on safety, innovation, practicality, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Development: Create, review, and optimize
    prototype lab scale equipment, process systems, mechanical equipment, plant layouts, to meet performance, safety, and efficiency standards.
  • Project Support: Provide engineering expertise during engineering design, procurement, installation, modification, and troubleshooting of plant systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical interfaces, lighting, etc.).
  • Problem-Solving: Diagnose and resolve mechanical challenges quickly to minimize downtime and improve operational performance.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, reports, procedures, and specifications in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with operations, maintenance, and project management teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    Identify opportunities to enhance system reliability, reduce costs, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all designs and modifications adhere to applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • 3rd or 4th year Engineer in Training (E.I.T) with a minimum of 2 years' experience in heavy industry, construction or manufacturing operating plant environment
  • Registered with APEGA (P.Eng or EIT)
  • Proficiency in MS Office and CAD software (SolidWorks, Autodesk)
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Resourcefulness and extensive hands-on wrenching experience preferred.
