Position: Electrolyzer Testing & Development Engineer II
Status: Full-Time, Salaried, Exempt
Reports to: Testing and Development Manager
Position Summary: Electrolyzer Testing and Development Engineer II is responsible for developing electrolyzer test plans, fabrication and assembly of cells and stacks, executing performance and durability tests, completing data and postmortem analysis, and reporting test results and conclusions. This role will lead in developing and standardizing test protocols to evaluate both the performance and durability of electrolyzers, as well as test diagnostic tools.
This is an opportunity to be very hands-on in a startup R&D test environment and collaborate with a diverse team of talented and passionate engineers and scientists with a common goal of decarbonizing heavy industry.
Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the work are Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Collaborate with leadership and research and development teams to identify new testing needs and opportunities.
- Maintain test program schedule to align with development programs.
- Lead electrolyzer test and build planning including defining test requirements and developing test protocols.
- Assemble electrolyzer cells in accordance with established specifications and guidelines.
- Install and monitor cells in test stations to guarantee proper functionality.
- Execute experiments, collect data, and ensure tests are conducted accurately and on schedule.
- Record and analyze test data and results.
- Report test results in clear and concise manner to development engineers, scientists, and leadership.
- Code new scripts for the automated operation of test stations.
- Automate data analysis processes and determine methods to improve efficiency.
- Maintain comprehensive test result databases to ensure accurate record-keeping.
- Address questions or concerns related to test results as needed.
- Develop and maintain testing procedures to guarantee accurate and consistent results.
- Stay up to date with the latest technical and scientific advancements in your field.

Qualifications
Professional Qualifications:
- 4-year degree in engineering or science field (advanced degree preferred) and 5+ years prior full-time experience in developing and testing electrolyzers, fuel cells, batteries, or other similar devices.
- Experience with hands on assembly and fabrication of lab test articles and fixtures.
- Understanding of materials and electrochemical degradation processes.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues with complex systems.
- Strong spreadsheet and presentation-making skills.
- Experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar programming tools.
- Experience and knowledge in running and analyzing electrochemical test techniques including EIS, LSV, OCV, and GITT.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with how to design experiments with statistical backed methods.
- Experience in analytical chemistry and materials test methods such as ICP-MS, XRD, SEM-EDS, gas chromatography, ion chromatography, porosimetry, powder X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, and BET.
- Experienced with analyzing large data sets and automating and standardizing data processing.
