Materials Technician

Status: Full-Time, Salaried, Exempt

Salary: Salaries at Advanced Ionics are paid once monthly

Reports to: Principal Materials Engineer

Position Summary: The Materials Technician is responsible for working closely with our lead scientists to help fabricate the cell components for electrolyzer cells. This includes but is not limited to performing specific tasks on cell production, documenting, defining and reporting processes and procedures for the electrolyzer cell, and maintaining laboratory inventory.

Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the work are Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Work closely with our R&D team to analyze, define, and improve the processes and procedures for creating electrolyzer cells.
  • Conduct the cell fabrication process such as slurry mixing, casting, and pressing to make the green tapes of cell components.
  • Operate and maintain the lab devices in general but not limited to vacuum mixer, hot/cold press, and tape casters.
  • Characterize the sample’s properties by using the XRD, SEM, densimeter, and particle size analyzer.
  • Perform chemical processes with high-temperature furnaces in various gas atmospheres.
  • Maintain inventory for laboratory supplies.
  • Prepare basic lab reports and presentations and communicate results with internal engineers and technicians.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Professional Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or similar technical certification in chemistry, materials, ceramics, or metallurgical engineering, or relevant degree.
  • At least two years of experience working in a materials science laboratory.
  • Experience in synthesis, characterization, and testing of materials
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and leadership.
  • Strong teammate-delivery mindset and ability to maintain schedules and objectives with many stakeholders. Ability to multitask at a very high level.
