Description

Position: Mechanical Engineer

Status: Full-Time, Salaried, Exempt

Salary: Salaries at Advanced Ionics are paid once monthly

Reports to: VP of Research & Development

Position Summary: The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the mechanical aspects of test stations and field products.

Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the work are Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Collaborate with a team to design, develop, build, and validate test stands used for evaluating the performance and reliability of electrolyzer stacks and cells.
  • Shape and design field products as a crucial team member. This includes conducting analyses and developing models of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems to support electrolyzer hydrogen production at customer sites.
  • Take a hands-on approach to the design, procurement, and build of test stations and products.
  • Work with team members to integrate flow analyses, heat transfer models, and sensing and data needs. This ensures test stations and products meet development and customer requirements.
  • Plan and conduct comprehensive testing procedures for the verification and validation of component, subsystem, and system designs.
  • When required, use troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve build or operating issues promptly. This minimizes the downtime of test stands.
  • As needed, support customer-funded programs by providing mechanical design input and analyses on electrolyzer designs and performance.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of component, subsystem, and system designs. Participate in all safety reviews during design, build, and validation phases. Document safe and repeatable operating procedures as applicable.
  • Work cross-functionally with leadership to define and implement a sensor strategy. This ensures comprehensive data collection and analytics.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Professional Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in an industrial engineering environment
  • Expertise and proficiency in Finite Element Analysis, Computer Automated Design and process/system planning
  • Ability to be a quick-starter, rolling up sleeves to solve engineering issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Exhibit proactive, motivated self-starting characteristics with ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex system issues
  • Strong project management skill set
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and leadership
