Description

Position: Electrolyzer Engineering Specialist

Status: Full-Time, Salaried, Exempt

Salary: Salaries at Advanced Ionics are paid once monthly

Reports to: VP of Research & Development

Position Summary: The Electrolyzer Engineering Specialist is responsible for the integration of electrolyzer stacks, mechanical systems, and control systems in a cohesive package that is safe, reliable, and durable. You will leverage experience you’ve had in prior roles working with sizable electrolyzer systems to successfully accomplish this.

Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the work are Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • As a part of a collaborative team design, develop, build, and validate turn-key electrolyzer systems for the chemical and related industries.
  • Integrate electrolyzer stacks, mechanical systems, and control systems into a cohesive, safe, reliable, and durable package.
  • Optimize electrolyzer performance through systematic testing, data analysis, and modeling techniques.
  • Collaborate with research and development teams to innovate and enhance electrolysis technology, including material selection, stack design, and system integration.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to project teams during the installation, commissioning, and operation of electrolyzer systems.
  • Identify and troubleshoot technical issues related to electrolyzer operation, recommend and implement solutions to ensure optimal performance.
  • Stay updated with emerging trends, advancements, and best practices in electrolysis technology and renewable energy systems.
  • Participate in knowledge sharing activities such as technical training sessions, seminars, and conferences to foster continuous learning and professional development.

Qualifications

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a related role with an electrolyzer company.
  • Strong understanding of electrochemistry, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, controls, and heat transfer principles relevant to electrolysis technology.
  • Experience in working deeply with materials scientists, system engineers, controls engineers, other technical specialists, and leadership in a cross-functional synergistic team.
  • Demonstratable understanding and applied knowledge of hydrogen safety protocols and systems.
  • Exhibited proactive, motivated self-starting characteristics with ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Possess strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex system issues
  • Strong project management skill set with a nuanced, detail-oriented focus on of the complexities of developing new technology for commercial products.
  • Proficiency in engineering software tools for modeling, simulation, and analysis (e.g., COMSOL, Aspen Plus, MATLAB).
